Managing Performance

I do not have a huge library, so the more that this sweet lady (Maggie Bahou) talked today, the more I thought, "Well....now what in the world am I going to be able to get out of this? How can I use all of this amazing knowledge?" So I started thinking. I may have a small size staff, (3 including me) but that is not the only people that evaluate me and who I can evaluate. It has taken me a while to win over my Friends group, however now that I have I am going to use this to my advantage. They have been critiquing me this whole time and now I think it may be time for them to step up their game and start performing like the amazing friends group that I know they are.

I love being a team

The word team was mentioned quiet a few times in our lesson today, and although I am not a huge sports fan, I am a gigantic "team fan". I believe that everyone that is a part of your team is not 100% all of the time. That is where your team comes in. When one player is down, the rest of your team is supposed to help them, even carry them if need be. With this mentality I not only run my library this way but I this is how I try to run my home. We are TEAM WALKER! Everyone has their jobs to do for our home. When everyone does their jobs the game goes great, kind of like a well oiled machine. We have wonderful results, everything looks beautiful, and it doesn't take long before the mission is accomplished. I feel like it is my responsibility as Mommie and Director to delegate my teams the jobs that they need to do. So in closing I have to say I can really relate to todays wonderful teamwork lesson.

The New Rules of Engagement

I actually listened to more than one webinar, however, in the end I decided to blog about this one. I have been struggling over trying to get my FOL group motivated. I really liked this guy, Scott Blanchard. The webinar lasted about an hour and besides being the Vice President of Client Solutions for his company, he is also a motivational speaker. I noticed that very early on in the webinar that he is doing what he loves, or he is a really great liar; either way, the man knows what he's talking about. One of the points that I received out of his webinar is that you have to make people passionate about the company they work for. If your employees do not believe in the company they work for; its policies and procedures, or the leadership of the management, you are not going to receive 100% of their commitment.

The Leadership-Profit Chain is a circle which means that everything goes around, that everybody gets an equal share or an equal outcome. There has to be strong leadership in order for this to work. With the passion of the employees and the customer devotion the organization can grow to be an outstanding and huge organization. When we get more customers the more we can expand and the passion of the employees will grow, not only by the money in their pockets but the joy of helping these customers. This all can become accomplished by strong leadership.

To build the passion of the employees they need to have a positive environment. I know this might sound silly but really everything that your employee sees or does at work effects the attitude or productivity of the employee. If the economy takes a downturn the leaders and employees seem to take two different reactions either they overreact or they under prepare for these kinds of events. Organizations that don't overreact tend to be the strong ones and last, they prepare and are calm if something out of the ordinary happens.

There are two different ways to see an employee, either as a cost to the company or an asset. It is better to see them as an asset because if you invest in your employees they will not only feel trusted, they will also be a better employee to your company. The employees are not just people but you need to have a one on one connection with everyone of your employees in order to get there full passion to the job that they are doing. Once you get that connection it is best not to lose it and you don’t want to be too friendly because you still want them to know that you are the boss and what you say goes. They need to know that you are in charge but you also don't need to dictate everything that they do. Just have a friendship with them but they still need to have respect to you and to the company.

Remember that the employees are just as important to your company as you are so if you treat them with respect you will receive it and so will your customers.
